The Gate 7 International (G7I) podcast was founded by three friends from the United States who love Olympiakos: Aristidis ‘Ari’ Bouloubassis, Peter Thompson, and Lambros Syrmos. Ari and Lambros are of Greek origin and found their love for Olympiakos through their parents. When they met Peter, he was an undergraduate student at the University of Maryland who was unfamiliar with football and had no connection to Greece or Olympiakos. He quickly fell in love with the team due to the passion of the fans and the intensity of the play. This is exactly what the podcast and blog strives to do: using English as a more accessible platform, it intends to connect Olympiakos fans from all over the world and inspire others to fall in love with the club. Early on, the podcast attracted non-Greeks from across the world, with listeners tuning in from across Europe, South Korea, India, Kenya, Peru, and Japan.

The G7I quickly turned from trio to fantastic four with the arrival of Costa, our resident European. Using their respective strengths in footballing knowledge, the four hosts work together to produce material from a variety of perspectives that is accessible to all. Ari is an expert on football analytics and using tools such as Wyscout helps the podcast highlight important statistical notes on Olympiakos and its players. Lambros represents the passion of Greeks in Greece with his fiery rants. He also highlights important stories from the Greek press by summarizing them in English for the listeners. As the resident non-Greek, Peter provides an outside perspective and at times a cooler head when discussing issues relating to Greek football. Costa brings with him a strong network in Europe, as well as perspective and knowledge that only someone who has been following the team closely for years knows. He has seen the team home and away for years, giving him perspective the other hosts don’t have. On midweek episodes it is common for the hosts to be joined by supporters of teams from national and international competition, exposing listeners to a variety of views.

The podcast speaks about all things Olympiakos FC and Greek football in English. With two episodes released each week - a midweek episode covering issues in Greek football more generally and a weekend episode focusing on Olympiakos - Gate 7 International content is accessible for fans of Olympiakos and Greek football alike. The podcast continuously draws insight from high-profile players and journalists. Already, less than a year into the endeavour, the podcast has attracted and hosted a number of Olympiakos legends including Stelios Giannakopoulos, Matt Derbyshire, Moedim Ze Elias and Par Zetterberg. The podcast has also hosted journalists such as Konstantinos Lianos of the British newspaper The Sun, Mohammed Ali of The Guardian, David Mooney of The Athletic, and George Tsitsonis, author of Achieving the Impossible - The Remarkable Story of Greece’s EURO 2004 Victory.

The primary goal of the podcast is to inform members of the Greek diaspora who do not speak Greek about Olympiakos, the biggest and best club in Greece. The initiative using data analytics and football statistics, attempts to present information about football that is currently unavailable in the Greek football media landscape. As fans of Olympiakos who primarily speak English, the hosts of the podcast were motivated by the lack of Greek football coverage in English and the lack of data analysis in Olympiacos football coverage. G7I strives to foster a network that strengthens the bond with Olympiakos, connecting all Greek football fans and bringing non-Greek interest into Olympiakos from across the world. This is the inspiration behind the name “Gate 7 International.” The initiative is proud to boast hundreds of listeners from 34 countries whilst reviews champion the accessibility to Greeks and non-Greeks alike interested in Olympiakos and Greek football. A large number of fans from Australia, the United Kingdom, Europe & North America, and elsewhere rekindle their interest and love for Olympiakos because of the Gate 7 International Podcast.

About us!

Biography

Born and raised in London, Constantine aka Costa grew up in a big footballing culture. His first experience of football was a drab Arsenal Everton draw in the 90s; needless to say neither the atmosphere nor the football inspired him. Enter Olympiakos. The first time he stepped into the old Karaiskaki stadium: the atmosphere, the roar of the crowd, the chants, the fans bopping up and down even before a football had been kicked... it clicked. Olympiakos was meant to be. Costa has followed the team across Europe from Anfield to Parc des Princes, to Signal Arena, Stamford Bridge, Turin, the Emirates and of course “our land” Karaiskaki Stadium. By day Costa works in the energy sector, trying to save the planet. The rest of the time, he is a husband and father of two, he’s mad about football and red and white to the bone. For more than 10 years, Costa has lived in the heart of Europe, Brussels, Belgium.
